In addition to Mario Andretti, the Darrell Cartrip car is out in California. Mario Andretti and Darrell Cartrip are both part of the new U assortment case of Cars from Mattel. Right now, there are several dealers from California that have multiple Darrell Cartrip’s up for sale on eBay.
What does this mean for you? Well as I have said before, you have a couple of options. If you ordered a U case from a dealer, you should expect to receive it soon. You can buy from one of these dealers on eBay, or you can wait for Darrell to show up at retail.
Hopefully, now that these are available in California, they will show up at retail soon. Right now though, with the Mattel Cars recall, almost none of the stores in my area have any Cars for sale. Let’s hope Mattel is able to rectify this situation soon.

In addition to Bob Cutlass, Dale Jr. is now showing up on eBay. There are 20 auctions on right now. Some of these are pre-sales or customs, but it looks like California, Texas, Maryland, Arkansas, New York and even Australia dealers actually have it in hand. This means Dale along with Bob will probably be making it across the US to a store near you very soon. Amazingly, Dale is going for as high as $36 right now.
Dale Jr. and Bob Cutlass are being released as part of the T case assortment of Cars and looks like they are 1 per case. If you are interested, you might want to wait until these fully hit stores before buying on eBay. You might pay a higher price now for one you may find at retail later.

Here is a great blog post detailing the upcoming Cars case assortments and release dates. From what I can tell from this list, there are 4 remaining cases of Cars, T, U, V and W.
The T assortment is scheduled to ship in mid-August. New Cars included are Bob Cutlass and Dale Jr.
The U assortment is scheduled to ship in late-August. New Cars included are Darrell Cartrip and Mario Andretti.
The V assortment is scheduled to ship in September. New Cars included are Dinoco Helicopter and Fred.
I’m not too sure about those release dates, especially with the recall going on. It looks like there are only 2 new Cars per case and all are only 1 per case, which is disappointing.
Also in the post is info on a new mini poster included with the Cars. Not sure what that is referring to since I have yet to see one myself.

I posted last week about the Cars recall. One thing I have seen is that some retail stores are completely out of the diecast Cars, including the peg warmers, even though Sarge was the only one that was part of the recall. It made me wonder if the stores are sending all of them back or just pulling all of them off the shelves due to the recall. It could be that either they aren’t aware of the details of the recall, or they are trying to put their customers at ease.
I also wonder if it could be the recall is driving up demand for the Cars and collectors are buying up entire supplies, either because they are being pulled or they think they might become scarce or valuable. Either way, this could potentially cause a shortage of Cars in the US, so you might want to be prepared for that.
Update: Checking on this a little more, it looks like Target and Toys R Us are pulling or refusing to sell all single pack Cars. Wal-Mart is the only one pulling the Sarge as they are supposed to. What I have seen at my local stores seems to confirm this.
