Brian, they are not releasing them on the same cardbacks at the same time. The Race-O-Rama is the new packaging for 2009 starting with case A. The last Cars to be released on WOC packaging were the Wal-Mart Cars. Yes, once the new cardbacks are released, of course there will be some overlap. This happens every year since the line was released.

It's not less than a year either. They did the same thing last year. They always start over with case A and they do it before the end of the year.

For a moment I thought the first wave of "The World of Cars" was done when I saw the "Race O Rama" cars coming out. But, they're still releasing cars on the original World of Cars back. I have now seen two versions of new SPIN OUT MCQUEEN - one on the World of Cars, and one on the World of Cars Race O Rama! Thats my point...they're releasing cars (the same cars) on two different backs at the same time. Plus lets not forget about the "oversized cars", "Kmart exclusives", and the expensive Story Tellers series. Its out of control. By the way - nice job on this site - I love it.

"The World of Cars" packaging has gone from ..."The World of Cars" to ..."The World of Cars Race O Rama" in less than a year. They are releasing the same cars (and some new ones) on two different packages at the same time. Am I the only one seeing this???

FWIW, Mattel has changed the packaging every year and then re-released the same Cars. It looks like that trend is going to continue every year. So collectors need to decide how they are going to collect based on that information.

See...this is where we differ. I do care about the packaging - and I would like to have complete sets. But, when they keep changing the packaging and releasing the same cars over and over again (with the exception of new ones coming out once in a while)...it gets annoying. You have 40 cars on your dresser? I have hundreds of cars stored in boxes! I love collecting these, and I love seeing new cars come out - but having to RE-BUY the same cars over and over again because of different packaging is annoying. The original set and supercharged set are going to be more valuable in the future because there isnt a MILLION CARS to complete the set! World of Cars is one thing...but I just don't get Race O Rama World of Cars. Ugh Ugh.

Now, now, Brian. Being a Cars diecast collector with at least 40 diecast on top of my dresser, I really don't care what kind of packaging it comes in, just as long as I keep up with news telling me that a new car is coming. Come to think of it, the Race-O-Rama doesn't sound like a bad thing at all. Axle Accelerator is coming out in this new packaging, and being a cardback collector as well, I'd like to get him. Until then, I'll stick with World of Cars. Besides, I still have a lot of collecting to do. ;)

I honestly am getting disappointed with how many cars they're putting out. The whole point of collecting is completing the set. I have the original desert set complete. I have 4 supercharged complete sets. I have the walmart exclusive set. Now theres the World of Cars. Im pretty much up to date on it - but now they're putting out RACE O RAMA World of Cars??!! I also see they're putting out the common cars in the new packaging. This has become more of a pain in the ass than a pleasure. Its taking the fun out of collecting. Talk about whoring the market with cars. Its annoying and Ive spent tons of money to collect these things to have this be a never ending quest. Its getting ridiculous. Im also going to assume that they're going to milk this until the new movie comes out. Ugh.

You know, there's a book coming out this month on the twenty-first. It's called "World of Cars," and it has five stories that I have never heard of before. One is about how Mater lsot his hood; another is why Rust-eze sponsered McQueen; still another is how Luigi and Guido came to America from Italy. All this and two other stories in one book, with a foreword from John Lassetter himself! I think the Story Tellers Colelction has something to do with this. Cool...

If that's true, then Sponsorless McQueen is a repaint of the Lightning McQueen that came in one of the race track sets. It has the same seam with seperate front end.

A weird thing about the Sponsorless McQueen is that it is not a solid single die-casting, but the front end is a seperate piece with a very noticeable seam. The Smell Swell McQueen is one piece, but other than the lack of decals on Sponsorless there seems to be no other differences.
