Remember the Toys R Us Sidewall Shine promotion available last month? Well, Toys R Us decided they want to force you to yet again buy 5 more Cars you already have to get another free Car. This time it’s N2O Cola.
The details are pretty much the same this time around. Here is the site with more details. Here’s how it works. You buy 5 Cars at a participating Toys R Us, from the approved list of UPC’s, between October 26th, 2008 to December 31st, 2008. Mail in the original receipt along with the all the cardboard pieces from the 5 Cars you bought, plus $5 for shipping and handling. (They really want the UPC so make sure to send that in as well, not just the cardback.) Do this for each Car you order, but there is a purchase limit of 10 per household. All requests must be postmarked between January 15th and January 31st, 2009, and allow 8 to 12 weeks for delivery.
You recieve a N2O Piston Cup Racer in its own display case. My feelings about this type of promotion haven’t changed. It’s still just away for them to clear out their inventory. Plus, buying 5 Cars to get one can cost you depending on how much the Cars retail for. At $3.49 a Car, you will end up paying $22.45 for each Car you buy, in addition to getting 5 Cars you may already have for each Car you buy. It’s up to you to figure out whether or not it’s worth it.
My personal opinion is yes. But to my knowledge, I don’t think Mattel has said.
There have been other promotions like this overseas, so I don’t think Mattel would deny US collectors those Cars. So you could make an argument, they would be released at some point, so why not these 2?
I have not participated in either of these promotions, so I hope Mattel does release them at some point. I think these promotions are a waste of money if you are buying Cars you already have. If you can buy even 3 new ones, then it probably is worth it. But the Toys R Us stores in my area are terrible.
On the Red Ransburg, if you don’t have the one, or one of the 50, then you have an Unauthorized version or a Custom. The Unauthorized versions were made in the Cars factories but are not Official because they are not authorized by Mattel. So it’s up to the buyer what they are worth. To me they are customs. There are ways to tell which versions you have, but you probably won’t know until you have it. So my advice is buyer beware.
Hey do we have reason to believe that both N20 and Sidewall Shine will be availavable again at a later date in a different format? I have no need for the display case, but i might have to go through this promotion to get them (and eBay for Sidewalll) if this is the only way they’ll be realesed. Thanx for the response too regarding the Red Ransburg. I did go ahead and buy one. Should be here tomorrow. I’ll let ya know what I think regarding its authenticity
Greta was shown at Comic Con this year. You can see a pic of Greta here.

So it looks like she will be released at some point, but it hasn’t been announced yet.
The Target Story Teller’s book Meet the Cars shows a Greta Bruchman as someone who had a hot new flame job applied by Ramone’s Body Shop. She seems to like clubbing because she is going to see the Rumbles perform since she might have a crush on Chet, a baritone an old traffic school teacher.
I reported this the other day and the fact my TRU had put a generic barcode over the peg warmers. I wrote corporate TRU but heard nothing yet. I did research like Karen did and found that all of the new cars are listed, so getting 5 by December 31 will be no problem. It does hurt that 2 weeks ago I found a bunch of the new ones in Valdosta, GA but none yet here in Albany, GA.
So don’t buy pegwarmers wait for the new stuff; we do have to wait ubtil tomorrow however

There’s one car on the list of the qualifying purchases that I’ve never heard of before. Any idea? A quick google search didn’t show anything…
P1640 CARS GRETA BRUCHMAN
