Good news! We’ve heard the rumors, but now we have confirmation. Tokyo Mater, the next Mater’s Tall Tales short, will debut this weekend Friday December 12th in front of Bolt in Disney Digital 3D. Details are here, but beware, there are a few small spoilers within.
While I am thrilled with this news, I am less thrilled that Disney waited this long to do it. The reason is so that hardcore fans will return for repeat viewings. Disney and Pixar have done this before with Bug’s Life showing alternate blooper reels over time at the end of the movie. I’ve already seen Bolt and while I thought it was great, I will probably not go see it again just for this. On top of that, the tickets were more expensive because it was 3D. I really wish Disney and Pixar would have given us some notice on this, or shown it at the beginning.
Those of you that are going, let us know what you think. Is anyone going to go just for this and then leave afterwards? There’s a thought.
Update: Here’s a trailer for Tokyo Mater that was shown on Entertainment Tonight. It looks hilarious. You should be able to spot a few suprises!
I WENT TO SEE BOLT 3-D TONIGHT, WOOHOO! AND I WAS SYCHED TO SEE TOKYO MATER, WOOHOO! EVERYTHING WAS RIGHT IN THE WORLD WITH ME…but they didn’t show it.
Yeah, the manager said that their digital upload of the short kept timing out when it reached 99% and could never get a complete copy. He made all the calls, sent all the emails, Disney did…NOTHING to remedy it. Oh well, I hope they put it on iTunes soon.
I’m going to go again. First time I saw Bolt, it was 2D, and I quite enjoyed it, so this is a good excuse for a second showing.
