San Diego Comic Con is coming in July 2009, and Mattel has just announced their exclusives for the show. The Cars exclusive for 2009 is Rescue Squad Mater! This will be a three pack of 1:55-scale Cars characters based on the exciting new Cars Toon shorts airing on the Disney Channel.
It will be a light-up package that includes Rescue Squad Mater flanked by Dalmatian Mia and Dalmatian Tia in their firefighter deco. Quantities will be available on Mattycollector.com after the show.
For those of you wondering, I believe that this exclusive will be an enhanced version of a regular release just as Lightningstorm McQueen was last year. Mattel has not announced any details about these being regular releases, but remember the 2009 Collector’s Guide does list Rescue Squad Mater, Burnt Lightning McQueen, Dr. Mater, and Nurse Mia and Tia which are all from the same episode.

Update: Available July 22, 2009 at SD Comic Con (preview night) and then at MattyCollector.com on July 27, 2009. The set will sell for $30. 5000 will be available at the Comic Con and 5000 will be available at Matty Collector. Mater will have a metallic red Ransburg finish similar to the blue one on Comic Con Lightningstorm McQueen.
