Mater’s Tall Tales: Mater the Greater Super Stunt Show Playset

Yesterday, I told you about the Mater the Greater diecast coming. Today, we have a playset to go with it, the Mater the Greater Super Stunt Show playset to be exact!

According to one retailer, this will ship in July 2009 and retail for $26.99. That seems early to me, but the price seems right. Here is the description.

Inspired by the Cars Toon animated short, the Mater the Greater Super Stunt Show playset lets kids play out the fun of the animated adventure! Playset includes 3 amazing mid-air stunts! Roll down the ramp and up and over “Carburetor Canyon!” Whoa you made it! Good job! Or shoot Mater the Greater from the cannon to catch air and go through the fire hoop–phew close one! Then get set with the launcher to jump in true daredevil style, just like in the Cars Toon short!

It doesn’t come with 25 Cars for Mater to drive over, so I guess you will have to provide your own. But it does come with the Carburetor Canyon jump! It also includes Mater the Greater himself.

I am so disappointed in this set for several reasons:
    1. Mater is all plastic-I know they’ll say it’s a safety thing, but it seems cheap.
    2. The blue stand for the fire ring is horrible! The post sticks out past the base, so it wobbles.
    3. My son always notices if things aren’t just like the movie and he wonders why there weren’t two platforms of the same size for the jump over the vehicles.
    4. The cannon only works if you have it just so everytime-a 4 year old shouldn’t have to get frustrated with the toy!!

All in all, I don’t think it was worth the $24.99 I paid at Toys R Us, but at least I’m not hot gluing helmets, stars and buck teeth on all of his other Cars characters. I just hope Mattel or Disney does a better job with future sets. I really wonder if they even have children test these out before releasing them…..

All of a sudden, there is a flood of products on the market for Cars collectors. This is somewhat frustrating as it is hard to keep up with the products coming…Of course, it’s about capturing the all-mighty dollar when the ‘iron is hot’ but the true way to make a buck is to slow down and make the consumer want it when it comes to collecting. Didn’t anybody learn anything from the baseball card bust? Having a cars collection is fun but the hope that one day it will be worth something (say 15 years) is also good. Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn’t care about that… Nonetheless, I will continue to be excited about my updates from carstoysblog.com and hope for a single car release of Flo………..food for thought. Happy 4th of July, Everyone!

At this point, Flo’s only release as a single was as part of the Story Tellers line last year at Target………I think her next release is as a set with her other “showgirls”, possibly as part of the next run of Story Tellers that are supposed to be coming to Target in the near future.

Will this be a Target or TRU exclusive? My boys will love this. Anything to do with Mater is a home run.

    Ohhh I love it!

I guess i’ll see a bunch of these sets with Mater missing, not that anyone would do such a thing.
