The Rescue Squad Mater singles and box sets have been out for a few months. For some reason, we have only seen a slow trickle of Cars from the following short, Mater the Greater. So far only the Pitties, Lug and Nutty, Cannonball Mater and High Dive Mater have been seen at retail.
Well, the Mater the Greater box sets are right around the corner. There are 2 box sets, just like Rescue Squad Mater. Box set 1 has Mater the Greater (clean), Lug and Nutty and High Dive Mater. Box set 2 has Daredevil Lightning McQueen with Teeth, Lug, Props McGee and Mater the Aviator.

These are not all the Cars that are planned, so hopefully we will see the singles soon.
Lucky day – i found both of these sets at TRU – and a Target nearby (which had nothing a all but peg warmers, and not so many of those) was happy to let me return the High Dive Mater single and the Lug and Nutty single that were duplicated in the packages. I will comment that TRU had about 15 boxes of Sarge’s Bootcamp – but no reduced price. You would think, since that set has been out awhile, they might want to “cash flow” their product on out of their shelf space and put something new in – but maybe Mattel doesn’t allow Target to do that.
Yep, popping up at TRU’s now too.
Yes, I have seen the one with High Dive Mater at my Toys R Us, but not the other one.
Still have not found these packages – has anyone seen them recently?
I am currently in So FL just north of Ft. Lauderdale. I have been in a TRU and 2 Targets today – none of these boxed sets were to be found, just the Toons singles that have been out for some time. I did see Mater’s cousins as singles at $6.49 each in Storyteller packaging at TRU; no, thank you!! Maybe, with Christmas this week, the sets are just sold already – don’t know. ?????

According to Michael’s comment right before yours, Meijers in Michigan. We don’t have Meijers in Tennessee, and I haven’t seen them here yet.
i just traveled 2.5 hours from pittsburgh pa to state college pa and hit several wm, targets, km, big lots and tru’s and I saw none of these
I have visited three Targets and three Wal-Marts on the northern Gulf Coast in the last few days – nada.
I found these sets yesterday at Meijers in Michigan.
Since we already have High Dive Mater, Lug and Nutty, we won’t be buying box set #1. That being said, I do hope they release Mater the Greater (clean) as a single. Box set #2 looks doable as long as the price is reasonable. I also would like to see Mia and Tia from this short, with teeth, of course.
Shawn, you read my mind. Ditto. I do have Cannonball Mater, the dirty one, as a single but not Mater the Greater, the clean one.
I’m fairly certain that Mater the Greater, among others, will be released as a single this year or early next year. It’s just taking them awhile for some reason.
I saw an individually packaged Props McGee on ebay, so I’m hopeful that the others will follow.
We just loved the movie cars and really can’t wait for the sequels to come out. Mater has always been a fav and the canon ball toy looks super cute- the little short movie is hilarious too! Hope to see more of these guys.
Are Mater the Greater and Cannonball Mater the same thing?
Well, there is a clean version and a dirty version, after he was fired out of the cannon. Outside of these 4 packs, the dirty version is the only one released so far, and that was released under the name Cannonball Mater. So I think that Cannonball Mater refers to the dirty version and Mater the Greater may just refer to the clean version.

The rumor is they will be in a different upcoming box set. Time will tell, but that’s the only way I can see them being released since there are no 2 packs. They don’t fit as singles or mega size really. I’m surprised they didn’t make it this time as Lug and Nutty have already been released as singles, and Rescue Squad pitties and Mia and Tia were released that way.
