The 2010 San Diego Comic Con kicked off on Wednesday night, and the coverage has already been hitting the web. Mattel wasted no time in showing off the Cars merchandise they have in store for the rest of this year and early next year.
First up, are the Haulers. Click on the thumbnails to view the full size photos.

When will these come out? My guess is a WM cube in September. I’m just guessing. I hate Toons. I don’t consider them part of the line. Thes were the only 4 new cars shown off. That is definatly a mega sized dissapointment.
This car is a very powerful and a heavy loaded car. its all parts are so strong that make its life long.
i’m still sad that they haven’t made an exclusive target hauler as they did the walmart. target has had exclusives so why not a hauler?
SDCC was a bust for Cars fans this year. As several other people on different sights have said, it looks like they just went to the local Target and bought peg warming lenticualrs and threw them into the display cases at the show. Mattel is slowly killing the Cars line!
How dissapointing! I knew there’d be Toons, but not this much. In all, and not counting the toons, only 4 of my predicted cars showed up, the 4 haulers seen in these pictures. This SDCC is the 4th one I’ve seen pics from, and it’s even weaker than ’07, which revealed the WM8. Here, only 4 new Cars the Movie cars were shown. I expected for sure to see more Final Lap, pit crews, and others mentioned in this Take 5 A Day post:

I can’t beleive it. I hear last year they replaced the previous Cars designer and got a new one. The old designer was very good, and now, I think they shifted to toons. I can’t believe it. Oh, and they showed repeats, too.
I haven’t posted all the pics yet. I have also seen pics of more stuff coming though that I don’t see here.
I agree with you but I feel they have done most of the Cars from the movie they can do. Looking at what they are planning for Final Lap, it’s boring repaints of background characters. At least through the Toons Cars, we are getting something new.
The shorts are a big deal for Pixar. They are building a whole new division around it based in Canada. It’s a big deal for any company to provide toy support for 3 minute shorts that are exclusive to a cable channel and not shown on a regular basis.
I still hope we can get them all, evin if they’re repaints. I will stop collecting when I get all the Cars 1 cars, and a few toons, but I hate them and am not a big fan. At least some final laps, like Skip Ricter, were new bodys. Also, Oliver Lightload’s trailer should say FN, not up. See

Also, I hope Martin can come back. This new guy completely shifted to repaints, and focusing on Toons. Now, everything, like the guides and exclusives are Toons. He did several Tokyo toons, P.V., and others before leaving the Cars line, I heard. Now, this new guy isn’t so great. I think Cars is what he’s best at, and there’s no one else better for the job. I hope they can finish all 43 racers, haulers, and pit crews, even the non canon “mystery” ones.
Oh, and I think they made the toons just so Disney, Pixar, and Matell could make many more toys just for the money! I can’t believe it. And that’s Chase Metallic Darrel Cartrip inside Paul in case you’re wondering.
Martin Arriola was the original designer for Cars. For some reason they pulled him off Cars and put him on wrestling figures. He’s done a great job for them (they look like the actual person) but they need to let him take the Cars line back over, whoever is doing it now just doesn’t have the vision Martin does.
I agree.
But, the haulers are nice, and while I’m a bit dissapointed that Paul, Chet, and Oliver are repaints, on the other hand, Ben’s cab is a new body style. I thought it would be Gil’s cab. I hope it makes it to the final. Remember Chief RPM at SDCC ’08? It was the Charlie Checker style, but the final was Tom’s body. I hope Ben can be that cab shown.
