Mattel Toys from the Hit Disney Movie

Cars Toys News Round Up

Just a few quick updates that weren’t big enough to fit in one post…

First, all Movie Moments assortments are canceled for the rest of the year. Movie Moments are now exclusive to Target stores. The good news is Movie Moments that were previously listed should still be showing up, just all at Target now. Hopefully, this will reduce the chance of having as many pegwarmers as before, which is what killed Movie Moments to begin with.

Second, another Wal-Mart exclusive wave is coming. It looks like it will be towards the end of October. There is no official listing of what will be in this assortment as of yet, but stay tuned.

Last, I just posted a long awaited major update to the New Cars Photo Guide. All of the Cars shown at San Diego should now be on there, so check it out!

That’s all for now. Look for case T to start arriving this week, so stay tuned for a post covering that as well.

Cars Collector Day 2008

Get ready for the first Cars Collector Day 2008 at K-Mart! What is Cars Collector Day you ask? Well, the whole point of this post is to tell you.

On Saturday, October 18th, 2008 at 11:00 AM, K-Mart is hosting a Cars Collector Day. This will be your first chance to buy 7 Cars, Edwin Kranks, Fred (re-scaled, no stickers), Shiny Wax, Sputter Stop, Transberry Juice, View Zeen and SpareMint. These are not exclusives and they’ll be available elsewhere after.

Over 2,300 stores are participating. Take 5 a Day has posted a list of stores here. You may want to call first and check the time in case it varies. Here is a picture of the flyer.

Toys R Us Sidewall Shine Promotion

Sidewall Shine

It’s been over a month since my last post. Sorry about that, but I sold one house, bought a new house and moved. So I’ve been busy lately. As a result, this may be old news for many of you, but I still thought it deserved a post. In fact, these are already shipping for collectors who got in early.

Toys R Us is running a promotion where if you buy 5 Cars, they will send you a Sidewall Shine Piston Cup Racer for free. Here is the site with all the details.

Here’s how it works. You buy 5 Cars at a participating Toys R Us, from the approved list of UPC’s, between August 18th, 2008 to September 30th, 2008. Mail in the original receipt along with the 5 cardbacks from the 5 Cars you bought, plus $5 for shipping and handling. (They really want the UPC so make sure to send that in as well, not just the cardback.) Do this for each Car you order, but there is a purchase limit of 10 per household, so it looks like you can order only 2 Cars. All requests must be postmarked between October 15th and October 31st, and allow 8 to 12 weeks for delivery.

You recieve a Sidewall Shine Piston Cup Racer in its own display case.

Sidewall Shine Display Case

Since I already have the Motor Speedway of the South, I didn’t need a Sidewall Shine, so I am not participating. But I’m still not happy with this promotion. If you can find 5 Cars on the list that you don’t already own, then this promotion is great for you, congratulations. But if you’re like me and you already have all the Cars on the list, other than the ones that are scarce and good luck finding those when you buy your 5, then you have to buy 5 Cars that you already have. So the point of this promotion is to help clear out Toys R Us inventory of Cars. All the Toys R Us stores near me have not stocked any new Cars in a long time, so most of the Cars they have are pegwarmers like Ramone and McQueen.

Now let’s talk about what it will cost you for Sidewall Shine. Let’s say a Car costs $3.49 (the price at Target). If you multiply that times 5, you get $17.45. Add in $5 shipping and handling, and that’s $22.45. If you buy more than one, then double that.

So it’s up to you wether this is worth it or not. If you’re okay with buying 5 Cars that you already own to get an exclusive one, then great. My advice would be to wait for a sale to save money. Of course, you can always take your chances with Sidewall Shine on eBay. Although you may end up paying more, you won’t get stuck with 5 Cars you already own.

No Stall and Leak Less 3 Packs Are Out Now

Cars No Stall and Leak Less 3 Pack

On eBay today, I found a seller that has the No Stall 3 pack and Leak Less 3 pack (pictured at left) up for sale. According to the seller, they are in stock, so these are not pre-sales. The No Stall and Leak Less 3 pack are a part of the case E, 3 pack assortment.

Apparently, the Leak Less 3 pack was a part of case D, which I didn’t even know was out because I had not seen it yet at retail. So, I was surprised to find that case E is out already. The No Stall 3 pack contains No Stall, Roman Dunes (No Stall Crew Chief) and Shirley Spinout (No Stall Pitty). The Leak Less 3 pack contains Leak Less, Earl Filter (Leak Less Crew Chief) and Stacy (Leak Less Pitty).

In the Leak Less 3 pack, Leak Less and Stacy have alerady been released, so the only new Car is is Earl Filter, the Leak Less Crew Chief. In the No Stall 3 pack, No Stall has already been released, and Roman Dunes is only just now being released. So although, technically Shirley Spinout, the No Stall Pitty, is the only new Car, collecters may not have Roman Dunes yet, or even No Stall, since No Stall has never been released as a single card.

Obviously, the No Stall 3 pack is a better deal, although if you don’t have Stacy yet, the Leak Less 3 pack may also be a good deal. But it’s also your only chance to get Earl Filter, as I haven’t heard of any plans to release him on a single card, although there’s always the possibility. So as always, whether it is worth it or not is up to you.

Here’s the reported case breakdown of case E.

On a side note, this is my 100th post here at Cars Toys Blog. It’s only been about a year since I started posting regularly on this site. I just wanted to say thanks to all my readers out there. I would like to remind everyone that by using my links to shop on eBay, you can help support this site, as I receive a small commission from each purchase made by clicking on one of my links. I would also like to remind you about Cars for a Dollar, which lets you browse Cars on eBay that are listed at or under $1. Every little bit helps fund the site. Thanks again and keep reading!

Cars Case R, Leroy Traffik, Roman Dunes and Stickers McQueen Out Now

Cars case R has started to show up on eBay in the last week or so. New Cars in case R include Roman Dunes (Chief No Stall), Leroy Traffik, and the first “chase” Car, “Stickers” Mcqueen.

Leroy Traffik

Roman Dunes (Chief No Stall)

Roman Dunes No Stall Chief

Roman Dunes and Leroy Traffik are both 2 per case, but Stickers McQueen is 1 per case and will only be included in 20,000 cases. Limiting it in this way is what makes it a “chase” Car as it will be more hard to find than normal. It won’t be hard to spot on the shelf as you can see in this photo below. The packaging, along with the white wall tires, will make it easy to spot, which means that scalpers will also be able to spot it quickly on the shelf. As a result, you can bet this one will be sought after for a long time, and will likely fetch high prices online.

MattyCollector.com = Slowest Shipping Ever

Matty Collector Logo

So, I’m officially dissappointed with MattyCollector.com. I, along with a lot of you I’m sure, placed my order for the San Diego Comic Con exclusive Lightning Storm McQueen on Monday, July 28th. I got a shipping notice that night. A week and half later, I still have not recieved it.

Now, I’ll admit I chose the cheapest shipping option, and only realized later that it had no tracking ability. If I had it to do over again, I would pay more to be able to get it faster or track the package. But, what’s done is done, and have the people who paid more done any better? I would like to hear from those of you who received theirs already, in the comments.

I was afraid of this happening actually. There aren’t many manufacturer collector’s clubs who haven’t messed up on some level. Don’t get me started on Hasbro’s direct to consumer website. So take note that the cheapest shipping option at mattycollector.com is not good. Avoid it unless you want your packge 2 weeks later.

Having said that I’ll probably get it tomorrow.
