Mattel Toys from the Hit Disney Movie

MattyCollector.com

Matty Collector Logo

Mattel announced their new collector website at Comic Con on Thursday. The new site is MattyCollector.com. Guess all the good names were taken.

It was viewable on Thursday when it launched, with all the exclusives from the show listed. However, they were all listed as coming soon. Now it has been replaced with a splash page with the countdown to Monday morning. Mattel has said that a limited number of exclusives from the show will be for sale on the new site when it officially debuts Monday morning at 8 AM.

Mattel has issued a press release on the launch of the new site. Here is an excerpt below. Enjoy.

Beginning Monday, our online store will have limited quantities of our 2008 San Diego Comic Con Exclusives: MOTU Classics King Grayskull,™ DC Universe Classics Lobo, Justice League Unlimited Giganta and Lightning Storm Lightning McQueen. If you weren’t lucky enough to make it to the Con, this is your chance to get them while supplies last!

In the coming months Matty’s Store will offer unique exclusive products unavailable anywhere else – including DC Universe Classics 2-packs and Justice League Unlimited 4-packs. MattyCollector.com will also be the only place you can get Mattel’s all-new line of Masters of the Universe® Classics figures, with a new figure available every month starting with He-Man® in October!

Take some time now to register for Matty’s Newsletter so we can keep you up-to-date whenever new products are being offered and major announcements are made. In the coming months, look for dedicated pages for your favorite Mattel brands like DC Universe, Masters of the Universe Classics® and CARS die cast.

Reader Q & A: Completing the Supercharged Series

Time for another reader Q & A, where I try to answer questions submitted by the readers. Up today is a question from reader, mina.

Mina writes,

I live in canada and I am trying to finish the SUPERCHARGED series, is there anywhere besides ebay that I can fird my missing cars. And also become a member so that whenever something new comes out I can order it??

Sorry mina, but as far as I know, eBay is your best bet for completing the Supercharged series. It doesn’t seem like that long ago that they were out, but I haven’t seen any in a long time, except for a McQueen or 2 still hanging around.

As far as membership goes, I believe there are online stores that sell cases of Cars, and at least 1 or 2 of them will let you sign up to receive 1 of every case. Unfortunately, that is all I have for you on that subject.

But I thought since my knowledge is limited here, I would open up this question to the readers. If any of you readers out there know of any stores that still carry the Supercharged series or allow memberships for all the new stuff, let us know in the comments. Thanks.

White Wall or Stickers or Chase McQueen

Chase McQueen

No matter what you call him, Cars collectors will be soon be scrambling to find the newest version of Lightning McQueen. I’m actually not sure what to call him, but White Wall McQueen fits the best, in my opinion.

This is the rumored “chase” version of Lightning McQueen with extra stickers, although I’m not sure what “chase” means. Is there 2 versions of White Wall McQueen, one with stickers and one without, making one a chase version? Or do they all have the stickers? If so, what makes it a “chase” or variant version? In addition, do the white wall tires make it a variant or new version?

In any case, it’s coming soon, and I don’t think Mattel has said either way. Look for White Wall McQueen in case R.

Cars Feature in ToyFare #133

When I read ToyFare #133 this month, I was surprised to see almost a full page dedicated to new Cars. The article contains pictures of White Wall Lightning McQueen, Kathy Copter, Leroy Traffik, Roman Dunes (No Stall Crew Chief) and Petrol Pulaski.

It lists a release date of August. Here’s what the article says about the upcoming Cars.

Mattel’s releasing another line of die-cast Cars characters, including a bumper sticker-covered Lightning McQueen, Kathy Copter, Leroy Traffik, Petrol Pulaski, Roman Dunes, Tar Covered Lightning and Stacy with Leak Less accessories.

That’s right, in addition to everything else, the article mentions a bumper sticker-covered Lightning McQueen, although I’m not sure whether this is the same as the White Wall McQueen pictured or not. I had previously heard rumors of the bumper sticker McQueen, but it has been said that this is supposed to be a chase variant. Here’s hoping that it is not. I’m not sure whether or not Mattel has officially commented on it yet.

Roman Dunes, Leroy Traffik and Lightning McQueen are all scheduled in the upcoming case R, which will be for sale at San Diego Comic Con along with case P.

Cars Case P is Out Now

It’s safe to say that Cars case P is out now, since it’s starting to show up in large quantities on eBay. New Cars in case P are Kathy Copter, Petrol Pulaski and Tar McQueen. Remember that case P is the case with all new Cars packed 3 per case.

Lightning Storm McQueen Already Fetching High Prices Online

Lightning Storm McQueen

Lightning Storm McQueen has been previously announced as being a San Diego Comic Con exclusive. Although, Comic Con is still 2 weeks away, Lightning Storm McQueen is already fetching high prices online. Checking eBay, you can see that prices are ranging from $37.99 to $386.95.

Whether or not it’s worth it to you, depends on a few things. LS McQueen costs $15 and is limited to 5,000. Going to Comic Con can cost quite a bit when you factor in tickets, travel cost, hotel, food and other expenses. If you know someone that is going, you can ask them to pick one up for you, but seeing as they are footing the bill you may want to give them more than cost to help with their expenses.

You have one other option for getting it directly. Mattel is debuting a Collector’s Club at San Diego Comic Con, and they announced that they will be putting a few exclusives up for sale online the Monday after Comic Con. This will be a crap shoot at best, as there will not be many and Mattel has said they will not be limiting any sales online.

Failing that your only other option for getting this exclusive is on the secondary market. However, my advice will be to wait until after Comic Con when the supply will be much bigger than it is right now. Hopefully, the price will come back down or eventually stabilize, but there are no guarantees.

Rumor: Movie Moments to be Target Exclusives

Current rumors on the web are that Cars Movie Moments are going to be a retailer exclusive and that the retailer in question will be Target. Has this been confirmed or am I missing something?

New Movie Moments have been hard to find this year. But as far as I know, there has been no official word that the line is cancelled. In fact, Mattel debuted several Cars at Toy Fair this year that were listed as being Movie Moments. So it seems that Mattel clearly had plans for this line. It would seem that only Mattel knows and they aren’t saying anything yet.

Any readers out there that have any solid information on this?

Cars at San Diego Comic Con 2008

San Diego Comic Con

Mattel just announced some big news for San Diego Comic Con. If you haven’t heard already, the Lightningstorm McQueen will be a San Diego exclusive, available only at the show. In addition, for those of you attending Comic Con, Mattel also announced a special Cars event for 12 PM PT on Thursday. It sounds awesome! Here’s the description.

Come for an unveiling unlike anything in this galaxy for the CARS line.

In addition to that, Mattel is debuting a Collector Website the Monday after Comic Con with potential for exclusives from Cars, as well as other lines.

Starting the Monday after Comic Con, because you demanded it, Mattel will be launching a brand new Collector Website with the latest news, updates, previews and – the big one – EXCLUSIVE action figures from your favorite Mattel toy lines like CARS, DCU and more!

But there’s more. Are you sitting down for this one? Mattel will be selling a limited number of this year’s SDCC exclusives through the new website after the convention!

Of course we’ll have more details including the URL name at San Diego Comic Con, but we wanted to make sure to give online toy fans the scoop first. Oh – and to kick off the new online store, we’ll be putting aside a very limited number of each of this year’s SDCC exclusives which will go on sale on the new collector web site at 8:00 am Eastern Standard Time on July 28th.

From all that, it sounds like the future is looking good for Cars collectors. I will be bringing you all the Cars news coming out of San Diego, so stay tuned for the coverage! Comic Con will take place on July 24th-27th at the San Diego Convention Center.

Motor Speedway of the South Numbers Update

Just a quick update for those of you out there who snagged the exclusive Motor Speedway of the South set. Mattel is mailing out numbered stickers to those who bought the set. Here is a quote from an administrator on Hotwheelscollectors.com.

As many of you know, the sales article for the Pixar Cars Speedway of the South set indicated that the sets would be individually numbered up to 1000. This was an error in the article, as the sets were never intended to be numbered.

However, to avoid any disappointment with our customers, we will be mailing numbered stickers to all who purchased the set, with instructions on where to apply the sticker.

Stickers will be mailed randomly – the same way they would have been had they already been applied to the sets. This is in accordance with the way all numbered RLC items are shipped. Time of order does not dictate what number a customer receives.

We apologize for the error in the article and thank you for your patience.

So, they didn’t intend for them to be numbered, but told us that they would be. And now to make up for their error, they are sending out numbered stickers. Score! Seriously, congrats to Mattel for fixing this. Has anybody gotten one of these yet?
