Real Life Cars
The following is a photo guide showing the real cars that the Cars characters were based on. John Lasseter, the director of Cars, is a huge car buff. When the Pixar team was preparing to make the movie Cars, the took trips on Route 66 in order to conduct research for the movie. Much of the movie was also based in Nascar history. Below I have included the Cars character name with a picture of the car that character was based on or inspired by.

What great photos – thanks alot!! I have Disney Pixar’s 2008 book “The World of Cars – Meet the Cars” which shows 93 photos of the Disney cars, their names, and the vehicle type and year of car they were based on – but NO actual photos of the OLD cars, so these are wonderful to see. Any chance you’ll be adding more? – for instance, 1967 Dodge A100 Van for Dusty Rust-eze, 1963 Dodge Dart for Rusty Rust-eze, 1950’s Torchy Truck Co Fire Truck for Red, XXL MetroActual Combine for Frank, 1979 Shyster Cremlin for Chick Hicks, 1977 Monte Carlo for Darrell Cartrip, and many, many others. It’s a great reference book. Again, thanks so much for your photos, Barbara
This is a cool list of photos!
Thanks for posting these

I will say that here in Bakersfield, CA there is a real “Snot Rod”. Next time I see it, I’ll follow him and ask if I can take a picture!
You gotta love Mater. That poor tow truck looks a little worn out.
Thanks for all the great info. on “Cars”. Great job putting all this information together. I’m a huge fan of “Cars”. My grandson can’t get enough.

Oh, so this is what Sheriff looks like without the siren! Heh heh!
They all look nice. I especially like the Hudson Hornet. They’re all great!
I’ve always been John Lassetter’s Cars movie fan. He did a great job, him and Pixar! Keep the cars comin’, boys!
